How Not To Be Seen

Posted by PintofStout on February 23, 2006

Monty Python once did a sketch for the Flying Circus called “How Not To Be Seen.”  This entry isn’t about that, though; not really.  Here’s a link to the video, if you want to check it out (  No this is about being anonymous while online.  There are many reasons to be anonymous while online from people possibly steal credit card numbers, passwords, your identity – for goodness’ sake, to the government reading emails, reading what you’re reading, recording who you talk to and where you go while online. The government has assured us that the spying is very limited, but assurances from government have little to no value to begin with, and if anything is admitted to when uncovered you can be sure it is icebergish in reality.

There are probably several methods for going about becoming anonymous, which I know nothing about.  I have been meaning to get encryption software for my computer and start using a proxy server, but apparently a proxy server isn’t fool proof.  If the proxy server is offshore then that really opens up your web traffic to intrusion by our NSA.  Other websites and some scripts can take your (not your proxy server’s) IP address from your windows settings.  I don’t know much about the mechanics of such things but here is a tidbit that has some insight (

Liberty Filter is also the future site of my forum.  So soon there will be a link on here to go directly to that where anybody can comment and discuss.  Yippiee!

This message will self-destruct in 5…4…3…2…1…Pfsssssttt.

Edit: I’ve fixed the Monty Python link.
